What is Casadastra?

  • Casadastra is a homage to the ancient tradition of game mazes.
  • Casadastra is an abstract autobiographical artifact.
  • Casadastra is an experiment in removing impairment-induced doubt.
  • Casadastra is an attempt to compress exact places into digital essence.
  • Casadastra is a three year fridge-stored soup.

Explain yourself:

EXPLICITLY:
Casadastra is a game about navigating mazes first with sight, and then blind. Through the action of mapping the space, the player enters a virtual trust-fall with the game. In truth, I'm bad at trust falling. Maybe I made this game so I could trust fall with my laptop in a way that didn't involve crushing it... Casadastra contains 7 areas, as well as objects to interact with - sometimes they speak.

ALSO, QUIETLY:
Casadastra is a game about an event that changed my trajectory as a human person. It's also about night walking, my home town, powerlines, the complicated feeling of a place, wetness and dryness in relation to brain-space, the textural relationship between red-brown and the deep night sky, gesturing in complicated ways at myself, gesturing in simple ways at people I know, gesturing with varying intentions towards the player, showing off all the things I can do on my laptop, my aspirations towards the future of video-games...

It's texture, really.  All texture - spiralling, moving - the texture of space and of time, looking back, trying to look forward, where I've stood, where I might stand again... It's also just about a video game. I hope you will enjoy this thing I've put together.

Features:

  • Warm, frightening, cold, homely, harsh atmosphere
  • Non-combat dungeon-crawler-style tile-based exploration
  • Pen & Paper mapping encouragement
  • Truly cryptic dialogue perpetrated by vague, warped spectres
  • Hazy boardwalks, silent offices, flooding houses, multiple buzzing frequencies
  • Original music and field recording by Earth Treader Fen
  • A slow, mysterious pace
  • Verdant imprints of the real earth

Mantra-like, Casadastra

This was really neat. I loved the environments and the different sounds encountered in the different areas. The ending (before the FMV) legitimately gave me chills and was an extremely memorable moment in the game. Thank you for making this.

Thank you for playing! I got this comment while I was sitting around on the living room floor, and it made me happy. Seeing your comments on Promesa pushed me to buy it, and I enjoyed it - thank you for those.

:)

Hiya,  I'm not sure if this is actually working or not - I downloaded the game and have run it (Mac) but all I'm seeing is a white dot in the middle of a black screen.  controls dont seem to do anything.

Hey, sorry, I learned about this bug earlier today. If you hit 'reset save' on the start screen it'll be fixed. Really sorry to have an issue like this on launch, I'll try to fix it soon.

great!  thanks - all working now.  :)
